In the U.S. state of Minnesota, a unique event occurred – the children of two different mothers were found to be genetic twins and very similar to each other.
Doctors who observed the women during childbirth reported to the press that such a phenomenon had occurred for the first time in their practice, even though there were objective reasons for it.
The whole story began with the family of Kyle Pierce and his wife Kelsey – the couple had been unable to conceive for many years, and the disheartened family was already preparing for IVF treatment.
But the procedure could have caused severe health issues for Kelsey, so the couple was in no hurry to decide.
Kelsey’s mother, Lisa, was very worried about her daughter and tried to help her in every possible way.
One day, she came across an article about how the mother of an infertile child helped a couple conceive a genetically related child, and decided to follow this example.
Kyle and Kelsey were delighted with this possibility – and soon Lisa managed to become pregnant through artificial insemination.
However, a month later, the family received an unexpected piece of news – the couple’s own efforts had been successful, and Kelsey was also pregnant.
After more than six months, both women gave birth to daughters who turned out to be genetically closer to each other than many siblings or even twins.
The daughters were named Everly Rose and Ava Ray and are now growing up in a large, loving family.
Local experts were very interested in this case and made an agreement with the parents of the “twins” to conduct several genetic studies, which are safe for the girls.
During the course of these studies, it was found that the sisters were not only similar in appearance, as is typical for relatives, but also largely identical in their genetic code.
Most of the features of their chromosome sets were inherited from Lisa and Kelsey.
